Julia Hansson

Dr. Julia Hansson works as Researcher and Consultant at IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute. Julia is currently involved in the project HOPE, which provides a Nordic perspective on hydrogen fuel cells solutions in shipping in relation to other low carbon options.

Green fuels for transport is an issue that Julia has researched extensively. Studies conducted by Julia include electrofuel and biofuel feasibility, the potential of ammonia and hydrogen as marine fuels, policy analysis linked to renewable fuels, criteria and decision support for a sustainable choice of alternative marine fuels, as well as life cycle assessment for low and potential zero-carbon marine fuels.

In addition, Julia is a bioenergy expert, with great insight into demand and potential for forest-based biomass for energy purposes, and studies on biodiversity protection in relation to bioenergy feedstock production, and ecosystem services’ linked to biofuels, among other subjects.

Julia holds an MSc in Environmental science from University of Gothenburg and a PhD in Physical Resource Theory from Chalmers University of Technology.
